On their way home from China, married Christian missionaries Roy (Woody Harrelson) and Jessie (Emily Mortimer) take a train from Beijing to Moscow. On board, they befriend Carlos (Eduardo Noriega) and Abby (Kate Mara). When Roy does not return in time at one stop, Jessie waits for him to catch up at the next station. Carlos and Abby stay with her, insisting the town is unsafe, however Carlos' attempts to "befriend" Jessie radically change the dynamic of the trip.

Unfortunately, it all builds to a last reel that is truly off the rails - a strenuous bit of action-flick silliness seriously at odds with the more low-key, psychological thriller that precedes it.

A very slow paced film where an American tourist couple travels by train in Russia meets a young couple and get involved in a plot and scheme to which you can predict every scene for 2/3 of the films run time. While this film is competent and overall makes sense its just way to predictable and slow paced for my liking to really rewatch this film again.

Despite a very slow start, the movie effectively built suspense and paranoia once the story kicked off. Strong performances elevate the story, making it a tense and engaging experience that requires patience to reach the unexpected twist ending.
